Meet: Jorge Nava, the skin of painting that sustains nature

Autor: Romina Llaguno

In the north of the Iberian Peninsula, miles and miles of verdant vegetation, plains, mountains, and sea are available to our eyes so that we may voluntarily find in this vast provocation of nature whatever beats within us. Some find in the landscape of Northern Spain a void difficult to fill; others find there the only refuge from which emanates all kinds of imagination and inspiration needed to breathe and create.

Jorge Nava (Gijón, 1980) is a painter who finds in nature not only an aspirational model of life to surround himself with; it also sustains something spiritual. The sensations Jorge Nava experiences immersed in greenery do not exist beyond greenery.

The skin of painting , Jorge Nava's solo show in  ARMA Gallery is based on Jorge's self-examination to understand how and why seasonal changes affect the artist's sensibility so much. Sometimes, art can be understood as escapism, yet these pieces are the exact opposite of escape.

Through a kindness toward the environment and its emotions, these abstract art pieces transport us to meadows, winds, and moments of blossoming, through only color palettes and the expression of Jorge's own body. Therefore, the exhibition is titled The Skin of Painting, because it is the result of seeking to give continuity to the body's gesture and its ability to create a language through matter.

In Jorge's faithfulness to abstract pictorial art, through his work he seeks to convey stories of his everyday life without aspiring beyond feeling identified and finding himself in his practice.
